We went with other homeschoolers to Birdsong Trail to feed the chickadees. It had thawed a bit, but was still VERY cold that day. Most of the kids were a bit too wiggly to get any major bird-feeding done. Plus, another group had gone through just before us. Still, it was pretty cool, and two of my disciples had the privilege of feeding a chickadee from their hand.
We look forward to going back.
Fall is a great time to get the birds to land in your hand, but try going with just one other family instead of a group. We found the birds aren't very hungry in the late spring/summer months, at least not in June, but the rodents are usually happy.
