Happy Birthday to me–festive like!

Firstly – daddy had the day off.
Secondly – co op is over.
Thirdly – only Nigel had to work in the evening.

Let’s make up for last year’s non-birthday.  (It wasn’t bad – we were just tooo busy.)

After a leisurely morning and a little school with Tab we headed to the Greenville Zoo to have one more visit before our annual pass expires.  It was sunny, dry, and in the 50’s.  The zoo was quite decorated and it was Dad and Tab’s first visit there.

It is much smaller than Seneca Park Zoo, and doesn’t have as many animals.  But they are different and they do try.

The lions were very vocal, too.

IMG_7877IMG_7879

They have an awesome set of playgrounds, too!

We went home for a while and ate pizza.
Johanna, Tabitha, Katriel, John and I went up to Bob Jones University for their Christmas Festival.  It included SO many activities for families.  Concerts. Food Trucks.  Tree Lighting.

IMG_7893IMG_7895IMG_7898IMG_7899IMG_7902IMG_7904

We ducked indoors for a Blue Grass concert.  Stewart and Marie arrived while we were in there.  They were very accomplished musicians.

IMG_7907

Then we listened to an outdoor concert by some Velos students.

IMG_7910

We found more treats, and then watched a movie by Answers in Genesis.

IMG_7913

Then we joined in a campus wide carol sing and lighting of the trees.

IMG_7914IMG_7918IMG_7920

Lastly, we headed over to the smores, and the alumni market place.

It was SUCH a fun and festive birthday.  Hopefully we can attend this again next year and Nigel can join us.

Seneca Park Zoo–the tourist version

Sunday started with church.  Lots of hugs and catching up with friends.

We were some of the last to leave the building and we changed clothes for our zoo outing.  A quick stop for pizza.

The weather was extraordinarily warm for November.

Nan, Kelly and Barb came with us, and we met up with Nadine and Asher.
Nadine brought Ridge Donuts!

I know there were animals.  We saw them.  But mostly there was a lot of visiting.

June Zoo Day

I bought a membership to the zoo last December and this is only the second time we’ve gone.  It was so fun to visit again with our “zoo buddies” Stephen and Malachi.  And their mom, of course!

Greenville Zoo.

The weather – is stinking unbelievable.
My new friend Mary and I met up at the zoo with her two little guys and Johanna and Katriel.
They have a pretty cool playground on the outside of the park.

IMG_1813IMG_1812IMG_1794

Katriel made conversation with S. as we perused the park.

IMG_1797

Johanna dearly enjoyed Mrs. J letting her push the stroller.

IMG_1799IMG_1801

The reptiles deserved two walks through.

IMG_8178

I can seriously get used the this in December!!!

IMG_1809IMG_1808IMG_1802

It isn’t quite as lovely as Seneca Park Zoo, but it was nice.  We upgraded our tickets to an annual pass, and I hope we can meet up with Mary and her boys again soon.

Friday Funday

I can’t promise they are all going to be this splendid, but I am hoping to make our lighter Fridays days of fun for the younger two girls, as the bulk of the week is spent doing soccer scurrying.

IMG_1952

Today we decided to go to the zoo.  We were especially interested in the Africa area that is newly open.

IMG_1955

I didn’t take too many photos, and we dodged some heavy rain drops.  But all in all it was a great day.

IMG_1963

We also got to view the back-to-our-zoo Anoki, the polar bear.

IMG_1968

With the old, original, zoo building being taken down, we had to really hunt to find Katriel’s favorite: Poison Dart Frogs.

IMG_1972

I have so many memories of the big kids playing in this attraction.  Though the rest of us were getting tired, there was no way I was going to deny J and K the fun of wading.

IMG_1975IMG_1980IMG_1983IMG_1986IMG_1987IMG_1989

After we got home, Johanna and Katriel started to watch a movie.  Katriel ended up getting bored by it and began to tell me about the games we are going to play at her birthday party NEXT year.  As she started to discussing these games, I realized she was describing hopscotch, so I asked her if she wanted me to teach her how to play.  She took me up on it.

IMG_1992IMG_1996

With Marie at Nan’s, and the boys at work, John and I took Tabitha, Johanna and Katriel out for dinner.  The fish was great.  And the puddle of chocolate milk that Katriel ended up sitting in didn’t phase me whatsoever.  Nothing like 18 years of parenting to dull your senses.

Zoo Day

The waning days of summer found us taking some time to visit the zoo.  We picked up our friend William to join us.

IMG_1661

We got there for members opening time and the docents were already out and about.  This one had a chinchilla for us to meet.

IMG_1663IMG_1665

The alligators were in for the summer visit.

IMG_1668IMG_1674

And we were super impressed with the snow leopards’ new digs.

IMG_1675

The sea lions especially liked the kids.

IMG_1682IMG_1687IMG_1691IMG_1695

And we left and ate a later lunch in the car on the drive home.

Mother’s Day

After church we dined on pizza and headed to the zoo.
I have no idea how many times we’ve been there… but in November, as I dropped Johanna off at a friend’s house, Katriel said to me, “Mom?  Do you know where a zoo is?”
I was horrified!
”Um, yes, Katriel.  There is one near where Mama works.”
Katriel gasped.  “Can we see it someday?”

So, for Christmas, we gave Katriel and Johanna a pass to the zoo.  We broke it in today.
