Musical Marie…

Marie and I headed up to North Greenville University today.  It is her second choice for a school, as it would require her to live on campus (just a tad too far for daily commute).

She needed to audition for a music team/scholarship opportunity.

It didn’t really seem like they needed a guitar player as much as a singer.  She auditioned for both.  But it was great practice in either case.

Katriel is NINE

Her day started with the birthday wake up song.

And yummy cinnamon rolls.

While her siblings did normal school, she only did a few things.  And she had a few deliveries from friends from church.

She picked pasta Alfredo for her dinner meal.  Stewart had to work through the supper hour.

Sweet girl does love The Chosen

Nigel gifted her junk food.  Her mind was blown!

Marie gave her a lizard.

And a sweatshirt from the movie How to Train Your Dragon.

Nan gave her two new dresses for church.

And Mama and Daddy gave her a dress to be Mirabel from Encanto.

New Powder Room

After all the updates we did on our Pannell Road house during the last 12 months we lived there, we have somewhat enjoyed not doing all that many home updates since we’ve moved in.

The one part of the house we didn’t care for, and indeed, they didn’t even show on the real estate websites, was the ugly powder room.

We had intended to tackle the project in November, but every time I ordered a vanity we’d get a shipment delay or a product cancellation.  We needed a certain size and we had a very hard time just finding a light wood vanity.

In the end, we love what we picked out.

The snowy weekend in January offered me enough time to get the wallpaper up.

We spray painted the light with the plan to reuse it.

IMG_2568

We had to finagle the trim wood a bit.

Then John started on the shiplap look for the bottom.

Once we got the vanity in place, we realized the light was going to be way off-center.

IMG_2607IMG_2608

So we had to hold off til on the light til another light arrived.  We needed a light that would cover the current electric openings in the wall.  The first one came and was bent so we had to reorder.

Finally the new light came and John hung the mirror.

I still need a towel bar and some jade towels.

Greenville’s Gift

One of the coolest things we’ve encountered since moving here has been the number of opportunities to volunteer.

Today, Johanna’s Explorer group met downtown at Greenville’s Gift, a non-profit that provides bags of essentials to new moms who may not have the resources many moms enjoy.

Katriel was also able to come.

In each bag they placed the following:
2 blankets
3 bibs
3 burb cloths
2 hats
3 pair of socks
2 onsies in the smaller size and 2 in the larger size
2 pjs in the smaller size and 2 in the larger size
2 outfits of the smaller size and 2 of the larger size
1 coat, jacket or sweater
1 toy or special item…  but the girls had such a hard time picking they were often allowed to put in a few special items ♥
(all of the clothes were already prepped for the matching season for babies born this time of year)

everything had been donated and was either new or in excellent condition

They each did one boy bag and one girl bag.
There was much oooooing and aaaaaaahing.

And we prayed over those who would receive the bags.

A little work for a little girl…

Katriel and Johanna both started in American Heritage Girls on their last year of their respective levels.  As a third year member, if they wanted to earn their Level Awards they had to accomplish a fair number of items in just one troop year.  Truth be told, by the time I was able to wrap my head around it at the end of October, it really was too late to get all of Johanna’s requirements done by year’s end.  That wasn’t the case for Katriel.  Her requirement list was much smaller, and her troop leader was really focused on getting as many of the requirements done for as many girls as possible.

One thing Katriel needed to do was help set up for an event for at least one hour.

Our new church was hosting a Seniors Valentine’s Day Brunch and I asked the coordinator if Katriel and I could come and help with set up.  We were warmly welcomed and Katriel was treated so kindly.  She was given very real tasks to complete and no one looked down on her because of her youth.

She was so disappointed when it was time to go.  We helped for 1 hour and 15 minutes.  She was hoping to stay and help serve the food, too!

Donuts and Touchdowns

It had been a long while since we have had donuts, and it was time to continue our search for good ones.

IMG_2706

We think we have found our new favorite place.

Later, we headed over to Jeff and Marguerite’s house for Super Bowl fun.
