Character Counts!

Last Friday was our first day of co-op.

As lunch time arrived, Katriel spoke to me, utterly devastated. The $1 she had packed for herself to buy a treat at the snack bar was missing.  I provided her another $1 bill, and she survived nicely.

On the drive home, she shared a story about how as they were changing classes this afternoon, she found a $50 on the floor and turned it in to an adult teacher.  She asked me what would happen to the person who lost the money.  They probably needed it for something important. I assured her the board would make sure the rightful owner got it and God would take care of them.

Fast-forward to last night.  I got a text around 8:00PM about Katriel and found money.  I assumed it was about her $1 lost, because that was what she’d talked about on and off all week.  Then I remembered she’d found money and –BINGO- that was what Mrs. Jenn was talking about.  She said she wanted to recognize Katriel’s character during announcements.  You could have knocked Katriel down with a feather when they called her up.

You could have knocked ME over with a feather when they blessed her with a certificate, some treats, a $5 ticket for snacks at the snack bar, and a $25 VISA gift card!  WHOA!

I’m not the least bit astonished that she turned the money in.  But I’m glad she had such a wonderfully sweet blessing to boot.

Engaged!

Noelle has graced us with a visit.
And now she wears a ring.

Stewart bought the ring and spoke with Noelle’s parents, and his initial plan was to propose at the beach.  But there are some parts to a beach proposal that are messy, and loud, and — it was a whole ADDITIONAL day of waiting.

So this morning, he put the ring BOX in his pocket before they set out on their hike to Pretty Place (a YMCA camp about an hour away).  Noelle noticed he clearly had something in his pocket and directly asked him what he was hiding.  Without skipping a beat (we are told) he proposed and she accepted.  And they then found some people to take a photo.

And soon our family will grow by one Daughter-In-Love.

Feeling hot, hot, hot–indoor edition.

The A/C upstairs is broken.  I found Katriel down here at 5AM.  Marie was on the little couch in the den.

After a day or two, John brought the portable unit from the garage into the upstairs family room so the girls could camp out in there.

Thankfully, we got it fixed on 8/24 for much less than the first quote.

Stewart is 22

He had no special request for dinner, but he did ask for cheesecake.

We tried some new ice cream that disappointed.

Having him with us to celebrate another year was not disappointing.  I love this spurt of time together even though he is such a grown up.

This splashy light of mine…

If you’d asked me last Christmas if we would still be in this house this fall, I would have said, “I doubt it.”

If you had asked me at Easter if we would still be in the house this fall, I would have said, “Oh.  Absolutely not.”

And then – the economy broke.  Interest rates are double what they were last summer.  Even though there are a lot of houses on the market that could meet our needs better, we are staying put.

The answer to that?  I’ve been doing some updates.

Our friends gave us a gift card last Christmas that we put to good use and we bought this gorgeous light.

A fabulous day out for Johanna!

Johanna’s friend Claire’s family has a membership to Top Golf. It’s a place where you take an elevator UP and practice teeing off from WAY up.  Claire invited Johanna and Beretta to join her.

Many hours later, Johanna joined her friend Rebecca for a trail ride.  Rebecca has been taking riding lessons and has been asking Johanna to join her.

We can’t afford something like this routinely, but my heart was so glad to see her have the chance to try something new.

A moment for us.

It’s been busy.  Not like – oh – my – stars – I can’t – remember – what –day –it – is busy.  But it has been, job interview, eye doctors, leadership training, sleepovers type busy.

Katriel and I drove Marie to work at Hobby Lobby.  Johanna was to be picked up from her sleep over at 10AM.  That gave Katriel and I a moment for Panera and some cinnamon rolls.

Mid-80’s at 9AM.  I love this weather.
And I love this little girl.

We took some treats home to Tabitha and Nigel, and then we got Johanna home in time for my ophthalmology appointment.
