Tab had her first archery tournament this morning. Her “flight time” was 8AM. And yes, we were late.
Hours later, we picked up her sweet friend Carter and they went to Velos Homecoming.
Sneakers? Bad taste or brilliant?
I vote brilliant!
At CBS many years ago (I could try to count back and figure it out exactly, I suppose), the year we were doing Egypt to the Promised Land, my core group leader, Mrs. Patricia, gave us all these little bowls with sea glass in them at the end of the year. She reminded us that it takes years and years for this beautiful sea glass to form. It has to be tossed and turned and dragged and driven by the waves and the wind. But eventually, it becomes soft and beautiful. It sits on the windowsill in the school room. And as I turned to look at the sunshine this morning my eye caught the glass and I was delighted by the reminder.
It’s been a few years of waves. I love knowing that the battering will yield some great results in the end.
I sent Patricia a hello this morning. God has put so many wonderful people in my life. Many I will very likely never see again on earth. It’s lovely to know that we have eternity to catch up.
Johanna’s Pioneer squad decorated a Christmas tree in downtown Greenville again this year for the Festival of the Trees. The theme was “Shine.” They had met the afternoon before to make dozens of decorations.
Then we went next door for the world’s most expensive ice cream Kilwin’s ice cream. It could never be more than a once a year treat at close to $10 a sundae.
Johanna’s leaders welcomed Katriel to join us. I love these ladies.
It was Patriotic Day at co op today. While most kids were wearing red, white, and blue, Katriel donned Nigel’s old Benjamin Franklin (or is it George Washington) costume.
Nigel got the outfit for Christmas in 2012… so it is older than she is!
I had to iron it and sew the straps on better this morning. But it was totally worth it.

Sunday started with church. Lots of hugs and catching up with friends.
We were some of the last to leave the building and we changed clothes for our zoo outing. A quick stop for pizza.
The weather was extraordinarily warm for November.
Nan, Kelly and Barb came with us, and we met up with Nadine and Asher.
Nadine brought Ridge Donuts!
I know there were animals. We saw them. But mostly there was a lot of visiting.
Do you ever have a tender spot in your mouth, that you know hurts, but you kind of push at it with your tongue, to see if it still hurts just as much as it did last time?
If so, you perfectly understand why I drive by our old house sometimes when we go to NY.
The exquisite sharpness of the pang of pain has not dwindled much, if at all.
To be sure, she had her issues. She needed new siding, and only one of the three bathrooms had been updated. The kitchen was spruced up, but was still mostly original.
And stink bugs. Oh my. Every morning there would be a new clan of stink bugs that had moved into the family room
But still.
She had five acres and a beautiful driveway, and five bedrooms and a basement.
And memories. She had so many memories. Parties and playdates. New babies brought home. Christmases and Easters and all the days in between.
The new owners have done a lot of outdoor work, and it looks like they are working on the shutters now.
We enjoyed a night in the hotel. And by enjoyed, I mean slept a tiny bit. For some reason none of us slept well. The heater unit was fairly noisy.
Breakfast included some of the best bacon ever, and we were on the road around 8AM.
Broken up this way makes the drive seem very short.
We headed directly to Ba and Poppy’s and it was nice enough to visit on the porch a bit.
I was getting extremely tired, so we headed over to Nan’s where we toured her beautiful new house and I fell asleep on her living room floor.
