Table Rock

Three plus months later what I want to remember is that I survived this hike…

It started with a group of co-op seniors making a plan to do a hike at a park in the upstate.  I was asked to be a chaperone by the sweet student coordinating the hike.  This seemed wholly reasonable, as I love doing the things my kids do, and I have a van large enough to move groups easily.

Early that morning, Tab headed out in her own vehicle to pick up her friend Daniel who was going to join the seniors (he graduated from the co-op last year).  I went to multiple stops to pick up other students.  We waited for the kids coming from the west side, and we started our hike around 8AM.

I had zero idea what I had agreed to.  None whatsoever.  I had no idea it would be like 5 miles up and 5 miles back down.  It took 5+ hours and I don’t know HOW I finished it.

At this point I rested and checked in on Instagram only to see most of the kids were already at the top.  Like an hour later I finally got there!

Tab made it up in the group before me.

One of the students was kind enough to hang back with me as we made our way down.  As I grabbed on to every rock along the way down, he nimbly looked at his phone the whole time he descended the mountain.

Live and learn.

It was no joke.

BUT I DID IT!  At 51 years old!

Rehearsal Day–NY wedding.

The sun was bright even though the air was so crisp!
This would be a remarkable place to relax and visit if it were 25 degrees warmer.

It was a quiet morning of errands.

Johanna, Katriel, Tabitha and I joined Noelle and her mom and friend in decorating the venue for the wedding.

It was cool, but dry for the rehearsal… and a lot of fun.

In the “can you believe” files:

•Our family couldn’t leave rental house bc our keys were in Stewart’s pocket – and he’d already left.

•Groomsman let out of police academy training 90 minutes late therefore missed rehearsal

•Pastor couldn’t come to rehearsal bc wife stranded in Albany and he has little kids

•Photographer dropped ring between boards of deck requiring dismantling of deck to retrieve

•Bridesmaid locked keys in car

HERE WE GO! NY for a wedding

It’s finally here.
Wedding weekend.

We left the house very early.

And got to NY VERY late.
Time seemed to turn backward as we drove.  And we’d forgotten just how cold it would be in NY when we got there.  But we liked the rental house a LOT.  And Stewart joined us.  He and Joseph had had a miserable drive up the night before.  It took them like 18 hours to go what should have been 12.

I missed a room in my photo collecting.

The kids tried to watch football, but the Wi-Fi was spotty.

Festivities start tomorrow!

It was a lovely Sunday afternoon… but I was very tired.  And in my heart, I planned to socialize more.  But instead I sat fairly still and contemplated the busy-ness of life.  And ate really good food.  And did get to visit with the Bradfords.

Katriel is the sixth Butler to enjoy her Hearts of Dakota Preparing Hearts for His Glory curriculum.  She is doing great things.  On her own, she made some Egyptian bread, yesterday.

And today she pretended to be a bat eating out of a saguaro cactus.
