Wizard of Oz Cast Party

Because these decorations are too much fun not to remember!

I was delighted to be part of the team for the cast party again for the third year.

I only did the cupcakes.  Other people were the creative geniuses.

Sunday School Substitute

I’ve long lost track of how many weeks I have subbed in Katriel’s Sunday School class.  Early on I let all the teachers know I’d be available as a back up (as long as they didn’t mind how tired I am Sunday mornings after working Saturday evenings!)

I helped in Tab’s class once back in November, and I’ve had the very good privilege of helping in Katriel’s a ton.  One of her teachers had a baby last month, so I will probably help for the rest of the year.

It is so much fun to be in there.  I love to see Katriel interact with her teacher and her friends.  Miss Pam is the lead teacher and has the best crafts and activities.  We paint and glue and have all kinds of fun.  (Katriel was born on Miss Pam’s birthday in 2013, too.  So it’s extra fun being with a birthday buddy!)

THE WIZARD OF OZ

There was co-op.
A lot of driving.
To and from Toto.
Kids to and from buildings.
A video camera for Economics class.
Piano lessons.  Chocolate brownies.  Ibuprofen.

And – I want to remember every moment of it, because it was one of the happiest days of my life.

Here we go!–prepping for the show.

It was a day of major rehearsal and some serious driving for me.

The kids spent seven hours at Finney practicing for the show.  I helped at the school, drove to two different Walmarts, three different Dollar Trees, Party City, Michaels, and I can’t remember where else.  OH!  To get “Toto”!

It was worth every moment.

Nan helped with the little girls, again.

Why blog this?  Because it will help trigger the memories in later years.  And it is worth remembering.  Stewart had asked Monday about parental involvement.

Yeah – I’m into this motherhood thing 100%.  I am SO GRATEFUL to be full-time mom.  I’m blessed to have the support of my mother.  God gave me a big (beautiful) van.  We’re all in.

The CBS study this year is I and II Corinthians.  One of the lessons I am really getting from Paul is – “So what if you are (weary, suffering, vulnerable, unacknowledged, etc.) – just do it anyway.”  Move to the back.  Just die to self already.  And do it gladly.

I’m glad today.  Very, Very glad.

(And a little tired.)

oh sNOw 2

Schools were cancelled again today.
The boys extricated us from the driveway… multiple times.
It was a huge and oft-repeated exercise.
We were SO sad to find out there would not be rehearsal again today.
We waited all day to find out what the decision would be about whether or not the show would go on Friday as planned.

Late afternoon we learned the directors were walking forward in faith, and we would stay on track to raise the curtains on The Wizard of Oz as planned on Friday evening.

The snow was VERY deep!

Oh sNOw…

I was leisurely making breakfast when Johanna remembered she had an eye appointment… in 30 minutes… on the other side of town.

I had already run to Walmart for a few items and the snow had begun.  Many districts had already cancelled school for today.  At the end of my road I was already having trouble.

We were late, but it didn’t matter because the whole town was moving slowly.

They had to dilate her eyes, so we were there a long time.

And, of course… she hadn’t eaten breakfast!  So we had brunch at Dunkin’.

Look at those beautiful eyes!!

The snow came… and came… and came…
And rehearsal was canceled.  Sad smile

The day I lived in my car

or something like that.

We had a tremendous wind storm in the area last week.  Power was out for days for many people (we never lost it ourselves).  Schools were cancelled.  The kids missed two rehearsals for The Wizard of Oz.

By Monday life was ready to be all back on track.
Or was it?

Monday morning as John and I were trying to hammer out the schedules and comings and goings of the kids for the upcoming week, Stewart innocently asked about how I got involved in some things.  I outlined how moms and dads end up almost as involved as their kids in many of the kids’ activities.

I had no idea.

Within an hour of that conversation I received a facebook message asking if since I lived close to the mall, could I head down there in the morning to get some adverting down.  I said I could after I took Stewart down to FLCC.

As Stewart drove to FLCC I received this text.

IMG_1027

This was the beginning of a oft-repeated trip to help transport “Toto” and her owner to and from rehearsal.  (Was an honor to drive BOTH of them.)

After going back to FLCC to pick up Stewart and somehow get through a bunch of school, I picked up “Toto,”

IMG_1023

dropped the girls off at Nan’s, and got the other kids over to Finney for rehearsal.  It was my day to help watch some of the younger actors.  But I did have to meet John in Henrietta to drop off the “new” red car for some warranty work.

I happened to overhear the musical director say they needed someone to pick up the sound equipment in Henrietta.

Smile

It ended up being 0.1 miles from the car dealership.

I grabbed the equipment and grabbed a soda.

(Never order a large!!)

IMG_1028

John met me to drop off the red car, and then we headed back to Finney to drop off the sound equipment.  We then went to get the two little girls from Nan’s and get them home.  I headed back to Finney to help more and then we took Toto and her owner home.

Lots more rehearsals to come this week…
SO blessed to be a part of this musical opportunity!

TobyMac concert

This was such a fun night.  I can’t capture it well enough on a blog, but I hope we collectively remember what an excellent evening out it was for all of us.

The kids had had an all day rehearsal for The Wizard of Oz (and I had painted the dining room and powder room).  We grabbed dinner at Mark’s in Penfield around 5PM before heading downtown.

We had very good seats and thoroughly enjoyed all the performers.

Hollyn, Madisa, Mac Powell, and TobyMac all put on amazing performances.

I’d completely pay to see the exact same show again if I had the chance.  It was that good.
