“No more pencils, no more books.”

See how happy we all are that it is summer?

Actually – we are still doing a little bit of school, and they have been more than agreeable to do yard work and building projects.  Nigel has even drawn up building plans to turn the swing set into something of a water park.  … to be continued, I am sure…

A cruise can start with…

rhubarb?

photo 4 (2)

Since we got off the cruise a few weeks ago the kids tossed around ideas to generate income for another cruise.
Bake sale?  That’s a lot of brownies.
Garage sale?  Great idea – but we have no good stuff.
Mom work more?  Sure – but then we’d have to hire a maid and a cook.
Produce stand?  Hmmm – this one has merit.

For the last five (?) years John has had a garden.  For the most part it has done very well.  We’ve had plenty to eat, some to share, and a bit to freeze.  With a little effort, we can expand this garden; and with the kids’ help, they can sell the additional produce.

John and the boys built a stand to ride in the tractor cart, and built a standing sign out of a plastic saw horse.

They built a box, too.

And they made $5 on their first day, and two more the second day.
We may not earn enough for a cruise in this decade, but I think it’s a great experience just the same.

Making a joyful noise!

Every so often (once a year?) the kids 0-5 are invited to join the choir or praise team in leading a worship song.

Praise Him, Praise Him, Let all the people praise Him.

Not sure why these iPhone pictures are so grainy… but you get the point.

Vacation wrap up…

As our vacation started to wind down, we repeated days at Busch Gardens and SeaWorld, and had one last day at “home” before hitting the road Friday evening.

Wednesday, we went back to Busch Gardens.

This ride is called Cheetah Hunt.  It launches you from 0 to 30 in two seconds as it launches you out of the station.  It later does a launch to 60 mph.  It is a very long ride that runs the expanse of the park and is designed to make you feel like a cheetah hunting for food.

DSC_8781

They were testing Falcon’s Fury which was behind schedule for opening.  (I’m rather grateful…)  It drops you to the ground as a falcon diving for food.

DSC_8782

We watched veterinary surgery on an African bird.

Traveling the world animal and ice skating show.  You had to see it.  It was pretty cool.

Thursday we went back to SeaWorld.  The weather was spotty.  It was our only day to really contend with the weather.  (A bit on Wednesday).  We also had to deal with the dreaded… SCHOOL GROUPS.  I’m so glad we had been there on a quieter day, Sunday.

DSC_8946DSC_8947DSC_8949DSC_8950DSC_8951DSC_8952

It was really windy.

She almost climbed out of the stroller trying to get to the bird!  She LOVED animals!!!!

We also did a super cool 3D, 360 degree movie called Turtle Trek.  We followed a turtle through it’s life span in about 4 minutes…

A BEAUTIFUL dolphin and diving show.  It was one of those things that you can’t capture pictures to do it justice.

We went back to Antarctica to see Puck and his friends.

DSC_9069DSC_9075DSC_9078

and here’s PUCK!

DSC_9084DSC_9087DSC_9094

The threat of thunderstorms and the spotty rain really messed with our touring.  We did get to do a bunch of the smaller rides.

DSC_9105DSC_9113DSC_9118DSC_9137DSC_9144DSC_9149

Friday we stayed at the house.

DSC_9154DSC_9155DSC_9157DSC_9163DSC_9172DSC_9173DSC_9177DSC_9178

I took a nap from 12:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. so I could help with driving in the later hours of the night.  We left around 5:00 P.M. on Friday which is a ridiculously foolish time to leave any southern city.  It took ForEvER to get out of Florida.  And it took a FULL 24-hours to get home.  Far worse time that we made on the way home.  But it was a super good vacation, even if I was ready to chew off my arm by the time I got to West Virginia.  😉

Rest Day

A day to do nothing.  We did nothing with gusto.

DSC_8681DSC_8684DSC_8688DSC_8693DSC_8694

After Daddy brought Katriel out of the pool she had a lot to say about it.  She grabbed his leg and screeched and pulled on his shorts in the direction of the pool.  For real.  It was funny to see her so adamant to return to swimming!

DSC_8697DSC_8701DSC_8703DSC_8706

Interestingly enough, she wasn’t as adamant about sharing a snack…

DSC_8708DSC_8709

But she was consistent enough to get one.  ♥

DSC_8710

Then she got her big brother to take her back in.

DSC_8719

These are the kind of photos that keep a tired mom going.

DSC_8722DSC_8723

See – I DID get in the water!  I also managed to read an entire book this day, as well.  A WHOLE BOOK.

After Katriel’s nap.

DSC_8733

We went to an Early Bird Dinner at Black Angus Steak House.  This is becoming a tradition for us.

DSC_8735

We also went to DownTown Disney again.  Johanna still wewwy needed a lot of things.

DSC_8738

John went into the Ghirardelli shop to get himself a coffee.  The waitress paused to assess him and ask, “Because you aren’t hot enough?”  It WAS about 82 degrees as 6 P.M.  Every other guest in the store was ordering ice cream.

DSC_8741DSC_8744

Katriel was very interested in a balloon a little girl had.  And the little girl gave it to her.  ♥

I wish we’d had a few more of these nothing days to enjoy this trip around…

Busch Gardens Day 1

I hadn’t been to Busch Gardens in almost 20 years.  I remember it being a beautiful place and was thrilled to see that was still the case.  It is also known for its roller coasters and they did not disappoint.  They also had a bazillion (or slightly less) rides in a Sesame Street themed area that Johanna, and even Katriel, got to enjoy.  In fact, they had more rides in their little Sesame Street Safari of Fun section than all of Sesame Place does.

DSC_8498DSC_8499

They also have animals.  Lots of them.  Here is our hungry alligator saying hi to lots of hungry alligators.

DSC_8501DSC_8504DSC_8506DSC_8511DSC_8517DSC_8524DSC_8525DSC_8529DSC_8545DSC_8554DSC_8556DSC_8568DSC_8576DSC_8581DSC_8589DSC_8599DSC_8601DSC_8604DSC_8614DSC_8624DSC_8653DSC_8659DSC_8672DSC_8674

We had gobs and gobs and gobs of fun, and the weather was AMAZING. Wow. We were there from open to close (10 A.M. – 6 P.M.) and did not do half of what they had to offer. I’m so glad we had an additional day to look forward to at this park. I am sharing about 5% of the photos from that day.  We had a blast.

DSC_8677

Oh – and check out this sign!  I wish we had this kind of parking around town!

Mother’s Day at SeaWorld

In the nutshell this is a great park.  It was so clean and beautiful and FUN.
DSC_8359DSC_8364DSC_8366
The park was pretty quiet and we walked onto rides for the first half of the day.
DSC_8367
We bought the All-Day-Dining deal and each got a wristband.  This allowed us to eat in any of 8 restaurants as often as we wanted.  Each trip through the line we could have one entrée, one drink, and one side.  A side can be a dessert, a bowl of fruit, a muffin the size of your head.  Seriously, I’m kicking myself for not taking pictures of our meals.  Mealtime is a bit busy for us, though.
DSC_8368DSC_8369DSC_8370DSC_8371
Antarctica is one of their newer areas.  They have a sweet ride where you follow a baby penguin named Puck.
DSC_8372DSC_8373
At the end of the ride you get out of your little car thingy and see a bazillion penguins.  It is 32 degrees in this huge room.
DSC_8381
After our Polar Vortex this winter this chilly room was nothing.
DSC_8382DSC_8384
You could tell who the southerners were, though.  They hightailed it out of that exhibit pretty quickly.
DSC_8390
Penguins are Stewart’s favorite animal.  He was sincerely giddy.  It was so very, very cool.
Do you see how close we could get?  The rule is don’t touch or try to feed.  It seems to work and I loved being that close.

DSC_8393DSC_8397
I kept everyone on a hard and fast schedule encouraged our group to move purposefully toward the Shamu stadium to catch the whale show.  It was marvelous.  Kids got soaked.
DSC_8403
We then visited the Wild ARCTIC zone.
DSC_8419DSC_8424
Longest winter in the history of the world and we hang out it polar regions.  Go figure.
DSC_8427DSC_8431DSC_8433DSC_8438DSC_8440DSC_8443DSC_8448
We watched a fantastic dance/acrobat show.  It was seriously awesome.  Hard to take photos of fast moving acrobats in the dark…
DSC_8456
Lots of aquariums.
DSC_8464
And this is my favorite.
DSC_8468DSC_8475
John took the big four to a big roller coaster and Nan, Hanny, Katriel and I hit the dessert line.
DSC_8477DSC_8479DSC_8480
More aquariums.
Frankly, I love parks like this.  We all love the rides and I love to see the vast variety of animals God created.  I love to be close to them and study them.  I am in awe of His handiwork.
DSC_8481DSC_8490DSC_8491DSC_8496
And this ride…
Best ride ever.  As a friend described it, it is ELEGANT.
This is not MY video… this is from YouTube.
I’m good for about one crazy roller coaster a day.  I’m glad I picked this one.
