Hello old friend

Do you ever have a tender spot in your mouth, that you know hurts, but you kind of push at it with your tongue, to see if it still hurts just as much as it did last time?

If so, you perfectly understand why I drive by our old house sometimes when we go to NY.

The exquisite sharpness of the pang of pain has not dwindled much, if at all.

To be sure, she had her issues.  She needed new siding, and only one of the three bathrooms had been updated. The kitchen was spruced up, but was still mostly original.

And stink bugs.  Oh my.  Every morning there would be a new clan of stink bugs that had moved into the family room

But still.

She had five acres and a beautiful driveway, and five bedrooms and a basement.

And memories.  She had so many memories.  Parties and playdates.  New babies brought home.  Christmases and Easters and all the days in between.

The new owners have done a lot of outdoor work, and it looks like they are working on the shutters now.

Hotel breakfast and Ba and Poppy

We enjoyed a night in the hotel.  And by enjoyed, I mean slept a tiny bit.  For some reason none of us slept well.  The heater unit was fairly noisy.
Breakfast included some of the best bacon ever, and we were on the road around 8AM.

Broken up this way makes the drive seem very short.

We headed directly to Ba and Poppy’s and it was nice enough to visit on the porch a bit.

I was getting extremely tired, so we headed over to Nan’s where we toured her beautiful new house and I fell asleep on her living room floor.

Off to NY

We’ve been busy.
Like, the not-so-fun kind of busy.
The kind where mom is flying around with her hair on fire relying on the help of friends and older kids to even get people fed kind of busy.

But today, after Tabitha was done at college, the four of us hopped in the car to head to NY for a long weekend.  We will stop at a hotel on the way up, vs doing all the driving on Friday.  It was less than $100 to do so, and it gives us multiple more hours visiting AND it breaks the drive up. Win-Win.

Looking forward to seeing Nan, Nene, Ba, Poppy, and so many friends.
I will likely drive hither and yon to get the girls to all the meet ups.

Harvest Party–walk through the Bible…

Storms kept it from being held outside like it was supposed to, but the event went on and was super immersive.  People from church each took a story from the Bible and brought it to life.  I should have taken more photos.

We were just about the last ones to visit.  The Hoyts were having dinner at our house and the time kept slipping away.

That worked out really well for the kids; they got pretty much all of the left over candy at the end.

Tab had a paper due so she responsibly stayed home while Marie, Johanna, Katriel, William and Victorious went.  Marie collected enough candy for the two of them, and they put it all on the floor and divvied it up.

Backyard camping

Johanna had some fun doing backyard camping in Mrs. Tammy’s yard with the rest of her squad.  It got very cold last night – less than 40F!

The rest of the girls went hiking in the morning, but I had to pick up Johanna for soccer.

Some fun with Mom

Ugh – orienting to the new job has eaten up a lot of time with my girls.

We had the day off co-op, so we rushed through school in the morning and went out to lunch and to the mall.

Flag Ceremony

Katriel was picked to call out the steps for the flag ceremony tonight.  She did a great job.

Johanna was one of the flag bearers.
