Tabitha is 14!

Lockdown has changed our approach to birthdays!
I didn’t let the mask requirement stop me from going to the Dollar Tree for balloons.  “Essential” is in the eye of the beholder!

She was touched by how we’d gone into decorating.

IMG_3474

And Nan brought over some pizza for lunch.  Tab’s favorite: meat lovers.

IMG_3475IMG_3478

I went the extra mile to color coordinate her gifts.

IMG_3479

Joy came knocking, too!

IMG_3480IMG_3485

Lauren stopped by with a gorgeous sign she hand made Tabitha, as well as home made cookies.

IMG_3486

Tab got a variety of gifts since our normal “Mommy Date” or “Daddy date” wasn’t an option.

IMG_3488

But nothing prepared us for the absolutely precious homemade “stuffy” from Katriel.  SO MUCH LOVE!

IMG_3493IMG_3496IMG_3500IMG_3503IMG_3506IMG_3508IMG_3515IMG_3520

We went for Over The Top girly for the cake.

IMG_3528IMG_3530IMG_3537

It was divine!

IMG_3542

It’s hard to play normal when life is so bizarre.  Hanging on tightly to the One who hung the stars.

Katriel is SEVEN!

We performed the traditional “Happy Birthday Wake Up Song” before Daddy left for work.

IMG_2909

And there was one small present to enjoy throughout the day.

IMG_2913IMG_2918

Nan came by around lunch time to offer her some sweet gifts.

IMG_2928IMG_2931

Around lunchtime, Belle and I, I mean Katriel and I got in the van and headed over to wish a special birthday buddy a happy birthday.

IMG_2933IMG_2935IMG_2936

Daddy got home a little early and VOILA! – we surprised the family with an outing to Chuck E. Cheese.

IMG_2945IMG_2946IMG_2948IMG_2949IMG_2953IMG_2955IMG_2961IMG_2968IMG_2972IMG_2975IMG_2976

It was a really fun day to turn 7.

A Stitch Party!

The sandbox in the family room was the first indication it was going to be a great day!

IMG_2793

A Stitch themed party had a few dear friends hanging out with us.

We made some leis.

IMG_2799

And did some scratch offs.

IMG_2800IMG_2801IMG_2804

And found seashells in the sand.

IMG_2806IMG_2810

And drank some Alien Punch.

IMG_2812IMG_2814IMG_2817

And bowled for surf boards.

IMG_2820

And gratefully accepted gifts.

IMG_2848IMG_2854IMG_2864IMG_2880

And maybe mom enjoyed the sand after the friends left.

Even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save.

Cruise Day three–Cozumel- Stewart is 19!

Gorgeous sunrise.
For those of you who do not cruise, you might not realize how hard it is to see a great sunrise.  There is so much cloud cover in the early morning.  Maybe it is just fog because of the contrast in sea and air temperatures.  But a crisp sunset is far more common than a crisp sunrise.

This one is through a sea-splattered window… so it was never going to be crisp.  Smile

IMG_8037

Early breakfast.  This time we had a window seat in the Washington Dining Room.

Tab had been up all night long with emesis.  She was not feeling well at all.

IMG_8042

Though it was a smaller, “Port Day” breakfast menu, it was exceedingly generous.

I enjoyed another parfait.

IMG_8045

As did Marie.

IMG_8046

And Nigel.

IMG_8047

This would become my breakfast go-to.  Poached eggs on avocado toast.

IMG_8048

The birthday boy enjoyed his frittata.

IMG_8049

We went back to the stateroom briefly to grab our gear and that was the first time I noticed that our daily news papers were personalized!

IMG_8050

It was raining on and off and had slowed to a sprinkle as we disembarked.

IMG_8052

But it started pouring again as we waited for our excursion.

IMG_8056

The girls dodged raindrops to take a few cheesy photos.

IMG_8060IMG_8063

And in a short while we were escorted to our catamaran for our jaunt to the north end of Cozumel.

IMG_8068IMG_8073

This marks my third time to Cozumel and the rest of the family’s second time.

Our first trip was in 2016 when it was a port for our Norwegian Cruise.  In fact, that stop was the whole REASON I had picked the cruise I picked; I wanted to go to Playa Mia.  Here is a link to that day.  However, our take home from that day was that the sand was unpleasant and the beach was kind of yucky.  I learned after the trip that the sand on the north side of the island is different than the sand on the west side where most of the beach clubs are.

I visited again in 2018 with Jenn.  Although I was not eager to visit the west side again, we weren’t eager to spend any more than the minimum on our excursions.  We got into a group with a discounted rate to visit a club on the west side (Nachi Cocum).

When we picked this Carnival Cruise we did so because of its rock-bottom-low-price.  That left us a little wiggle room to splurge for an excursion to the north side of the island.

IMG_8074

We had about a 40 minute ride to Pasion de Isla.

IMG_8075

We passed the Disney Fantasy.  I am SO GLAD we weren’t in the same port.  Speeding past it was enough to tempt me.

IMG_8078

It was a smooth ride and though it had rained on and off on our way, the sun was really breaking through as we arrived.

IMG_8085

Tab was holding it together, but she was exhausted.

IMG_8087IMG_8089

Let me confirm right now that the sand was exquisite.

IMG_8090IMG_8094

We got the spiel on what is and is not included and how you can add on 572 different options to make your day nothing short of paradise.  (We passed on most.)

IMG_8096IMG_8097IMG_8098

We found spots and started to the water.  It was a while before I remember to take some photos.

IMG_8099IMG_8103

Now, I was not at all interested in sleeping through any of my beach day, but if I were going to allow myself a nap I can think of no better place on earth than in the sand in the Caribbean, canIgetawitness?

IMG_8105

Non-alcoholic and well-alcoholic beverages were included.  We had plenty of the former and none of the latter.

IMG_8107IMG_8108IMG_8109IMG_8110IMG_8113IMG_8118IMG_8121IMG_8123IMG_8124

Lunch was good.  The guac was not as good here as at Nachi Cocum last year, but it was still better than I what I buy at ALDI or Walmart.  Winking smile

IMG_8125IMG_8126IMG_8128IMG_8129IMG_8131IMG_8132IMG_8134IMG_8135

Before we knew it they were telling us it was time to return.

IMG_8138IMG_8140IMG_8145

I took a bunch of photos as we were leaving as if I could somehow capture this place and take it home.

IMG_8146IMG_8147IMG_8148IMG_8154

I bought some vanilla for me and my friend Tiffany.  I confess I was a little worried we’d get home and find out it was water.  LOL.

IMG_8158

Back on deck we took quick swims, got more drinks, and moved through the stages of cleaning up.

IMG_8159

Marie drew a while on deck.

IMG_8160

And we went to dinner.  Poor Tab was still tired and her appetite had not yet returned.

IMG_8161IMG_8162IMG_8163IMG_8164

Prettier than it tasted.

IMG_8165

You don’t say?

IMG_8166

Ratatouille.

IMG_8167

Blobbity-glob-glob??

IMG_8168IMG_8170

I was ready for something a little simpler.

IMG_8171IMG_8172IMG_8173IMG_8181IMG_8184

Do you see the Hidden Mickey?

IMG_8185IMG_8186

Not going to lie – we gobbled dessert, quickly ordered Stewart’s dinner for tomorrow, threw the girls into, walked the girls carefully to their Club Ocean…

IMG_8188

And watched Endgame.

Marvel on a cruise ship with coffee at my side.  I’m not sure there is much more you could offer me this side of Heaven.  (Just kidding. Sort of.)

IMG_8191IMG_8192

John found Tab and I loungers half-way through the movie.  This is where we had been sitting and where they sat.

IMG_8194

In case you missed it.

Probably not his idea of the best birthday ever, but it didn’t stink.  (He’s not that into beaches.)

JEJF8562

He’s (almost) 19!

We celebrated Stewart’s birthday early, as we will be out of town on his actual birthday.  The kids drew him cards.

IMG_7553

Doesn’t everyone have a card of Danny Trejo????

IMG_7555

Some lemon cheesecake for the boy who loves lemons.

IMG_7558IMG_7561

I can’t believe I’ve been a mom for (almost) 19 years.

HOW did MARIE become 15?!

I remember so vividly when they said, “It’s a girl.”  I was in denial for at least 12 hours afterward.  Silly doctors.  I am a boy-mama.

And here we are 15 years later.  For her birthday she asked for a shopping date.  Marie, who doesn’t love shopping wanted a ladies formal suit.  So we shopped for one.  We DID find one in her perfect size at Goodwill.

IMG_7200

We grabbed lunch at Golden Corral buffet, and were home for dinner and guests.

IMG_7213IMG_7219

And Oreo cheesecake.

IMG_7233IMG_7239

Nigel is 17!

It was a wee bit cooler today than it had been and that made it the perfect day for Seabreeze….

See!

IMG_7044

It was Nigel’s birthday, so he and Gunnar joined us for the day.

We owned the park and were home for a great dinner.

IMG_7054IMG_7055IMG_7056IMG_7057IMG_7064

I can’t believe my baby boy is 17 years old.  He brightens our house with laughter and songs.  I’m looking forward to seeing how God uses him.

Penguin Party

Butler kids like themed birthday parties, and Johanna is no exception.  This party theme went through a few transitions over the last 12 months (oh yes – we start talking about our NEXT birthday within a few hours of the current one ending).  We ended up with a Penguin theme…

So we started by making star shirts.  Because making penguins would be difficult.  And in 3-2-1 Penguins they fly in outer space and there are stars in outer space…

IMG_6546IMG_6547IMG_6548

There was an obstacle course.

IMG_6550

Arctic blue punch with ice berg chunks.

IMG_6553

Pizza and “ice” chunks.

IMG_6554IMG_6556

Penguin gift bags.

IMG_6559IMG_6561IMG_6562IMG_6563IMG_6566IMG_6567

And sprinkler fun…  That water was COLD.  Also – very penguiny.

IMG_6573IMG_6575IMG_6580IMG_6584
