Imagine my delight when I found out about these giant maps on Amazon. For less than $12 we ordered this giant fabric map for the basement. We had to wait 5 weeks for it to arrive (!), but it was worth it. It actually cost more to buy the rings and hooks to hang it…
And this meme made me laugh so hard I couldn’t breathe.
Truth be told there are LOTS of regions on that map that would not be nearly as easy to live in as NY,
BUT there are only one or two states that I would like to live in LESS than NY these days.
We need shoes – please open shoe stores!
COVID
Pandemic gear
Took care of my first Covid+ patient.
This person felt great and didn’t even know they had it.
This person had to be readmitted after a recent surgery and needed testing as protocol. The test came back positive. None of the people this patient lives with have the illness themselves.
I’m pretty sure we are being punked.
Why are “Red States” open and cases are not spiking?
Why are “Blue States” closed and cases are going up?
Why does the CDC change their stances every few days?
Why are hospitals empty as patients wait for transplants and stents and shunts and bypasses?
How many will die or get sicker from being ignored in these locked down states?
My kids are getting an excellent civics lesson.

Shop til you drop!
The governor supreme still has us all on “lock down.” I’m so far over this. The virus has become so politicized! As states in the mid-west and south start reopening, we are still stuck in this zone.
Oh – they did send us all some money to stimulate the economy.
So – I’m doing my part.
On almost a daily basis you can find me at some store or another. You know – with hundreds of other people. We now line up to enter Walmart, Lowe’s, ALDI, Home Depot, etc. as they monitor the numbers in the stores. Once inside, it’s a different story. There are people shoulder to shoulder shopping. And I’ve seen people sitting with consultants ordering new bathrooms and kitchens.
Me – I’m usually in the tile or bathroom fixtures. We’ve had some contractors to the house to give us estimates to redo our master bathroom. Over the years we’ve used our fun monies almost entirely to travel. But even before lockdown we’d decided we’d put some money INTO the house this year. I figure in a few years we won’t need as large a yard or as many bedrooms and we will likely move homes. Best get started with our updates.
These photos were taken over two weeks and five visits. I am trying to stimulate the economy after all.
John is 50!
Another lock down birthday.
This stings a little to be honest.
John turned 50 today.
We feel about as rough as we look.
Thankfully, he has been blessed by a loving family.
Katriel made a beautiful poster for him.
And Marie’s card was inspired by our daily press briefings.
We had steak. Nan and Nene joined us again. They are as over this nonsense as we are.
The cake was chocolate with chocolate frosting.
Because the more things change, the more they stay the same.
Once this lunacy passes, we will do a dinner out. Hopefully for our anniversary in five weeks.
Tabitha is 14!
Lockdown has changed our approach to birthdays!
I didn’t let the mask requirement stop me from going to the Dollar Tree for balloons. “Essential” is in the eye of the beholder!
She was touched by how we’d gone into decorating.
And Nan brought over some pizza for lunch. Tab’s favorite: meat lovers.
I went the extra mile to color coordinate her gifts.
Joy came knocking, too!
Lauren stopped by with a gorgeous sign she hand made Tabitha, as well as home made cookies.
Tab got a variety of gifts since our normal “Mommy Date” or “Daddy date” wasn’t an option.
But nothing prepared us for the absolutely precious homemade “stuffy” from Katriel. SO MUCH LOVE!
We went for Over The Top girly for the cake.
It was divine!
It’s hard to play normal when life is so bizarre. Hanging on tightly to the One who hung the stars.
Covering up
Our family has been praying for the governor since Christmastime. It was during a family dinner then that we were sharing our enormous hatred of many of the policies he has usher in: late term abortions, bail reform, vaccine laws. As we were lamenting his tenure as leader it suddenly dawned on me that HE NEEDS JESUS. So that night, even though it was probably the LAST thing on his mind, Stewart boldly lifted up the governor in prayer as we prayed for his soul.
Stewart went back to Houghton, but the rest of the family continued to lift up the governor night after night in family prayer time. We never dreamt the man would ever need THIS much prayer as he leads us through this pandemic.
Nan has been making face masks for a few weeks now. And now the law will mandate we wear them. At this point, I think it is theater. I’ve been sharing with friends how I don’t really believe this virus is turning out to be the risk we were told it was going to be. We will obey the law, but I don’t know what is going on.
•As the hospital remains empty.
•As people continue to wait for “elective surgeries” such as cataract removal, heart valve placement, vascular bypass, and more; and wait for “elective tests” such as endoscopies, and angiograms and mammograms and more.
•As we just keep languishing with closed business.
•As I wait in line to enter jam packed stores.
We trust God. He has allowed this.
Southern states are reopening. Maybe we will be able to thrive again, soon.
A Very Lockdown Easter
Here we are – Easter.
It looks pretty normal this time of day.
Kids looking for baskets.
The three that are awake, anyway…
We had a LOT of good things to eat, including Empty Tomb Rolls.
The other kids woke in time to join us for worship in the basement. Later, Nan and Nene broke our four weeks of no contact to join us for egg hunt and dinner.
Since we’d had a few ham dinners over the winter we opted for something different.
Salt potatoes proved hard to find as grocery stores are unpredictable during this time.
We enjoyed dessert before I took a photo!
And we play some games.
Every aspect of our lives looks a little different in light of this government lockdown. Thankfully, God remains the same, yesterday, today and forever.
Coronavirus?
The rules around the coronavirus keep changing. I am starting to wonder if we’ve been punked.
They told us that the hospitals would be so overwhelmed that we needed to stop all elective procedures because there would be so many patients and we needed to have all beds available and all intensive care access available. And here we are with empty hospitals…
To be continued…
