Daddy Fun Day

Daddy took a half day while Mama took Marie to soccer in Elmira.

Daddy, Tabitha, Johanna and Katriel headed over to Long Acre Farms for a few hours of silly fun.

Of COURSE fried cakes!

They bounced themselves silly; Marie won her game.  And fall marches on.

Father’s Day

Plan A for Father’s Day had included a drive to San Diego to attend services at Dr. David Jeremiah’s church, Shadow Mountain Community Church.
After experiencing driving in Southern California, John was not so sure he wanted to spend Father’s Day that way.  Then, after the later-than-expected night last night, he was sure that was not our best plan.
Instead, we let people sleep a little, and we decided to visit San Juan Capistrano.  We hoped to visit the mission there and explore the town a little.  What we failed to realize was that there was an entrance fee to the mission.   Oops.  We were feeling a little spent out, so we instead just wandered around the town a bit and did some window shopping.

We stopped at a Walmart and bought a few sand toys and some things we needed for the house and then used a website that we’d found the other two beaches and located one not too far from where we were.   Crescent Bay Beach was wonderful.
We parked on a little one-way side street near tiny homes that overlooked the Pacific Ocean.  Zillow tells me those <1,000 sq. ft. bungalows cost more than $1,000,000.
With a view like theirs, it might not be as overpriced as it sounds.

It had a tiny beach house with essentially no where to change, but we made do.

The waves were FEROCIOUS and the lifeguards on duty were working hard.

The little girls had none of it (which I was happy about) but they enjoyed the sand tremendously.

The waves would knock us down and push us around.
This next video is a must watch!

Now you see them

Now you don’t.

And they’d pop back up eventually.

I had one eat-the-sand moment myself, and every one of us had at least one bucket full of sand in our swim suits when we changed out!

It was the least busy of the beaches we’d visited, but still had maybe 100 people on it.   See the homes up the hill?

We headed back to the house where I fed them something (sigh – I wish it hadn’t taken me so long to get to blogging…) and got to bed decently early.
Originally our plan was to have another quiet day on Monday and visit Disney again on Tuesday.  We looked into it, and adding a fifth day at Disney was only $10 a person.  So we decided to go to Disney Monday and decide during the day if we wanted to expand our tickets to Tuesday.

Daddy’s birthday 2018

You must be a very important guy if you have princesses at your birthday celebration.

Even if they forget to take a photo of your cake before cutting it.

This cake, tho.

They were super excited to give Daddy their cards.

Marie’s card had us laughing so hard we couldn’t breathe.  She drew a picture of Daddy as a super hero.  He made Thor look like a lightweight.

Groot pants.

And only in Rochester do people get winter coats for their April birthday…

Flower City Work Camp ~ 2018

Last week one of my kids asked me, “Mom, why are you always so busy?”
I replied, “Because you are, honey.”

You being plural, of course.

I firmly believe in being engaged in what they do.  The last few years the boys have done FCWC.  I was part of a Sidewalk Club last year and resumed my role this year.

John had his first year as a Worksite Leader.

Stewart’s college classes interfered with him taking part in the traditional way, but he was able to plug in to helping with some of the A/V needs and getting to hear some sermons.

Nigel was eager to do another year on a worksite, and we twisted Marie’s arm to participate this year.

It was ridiculously cold.  And we endured one nasty, NASTY windstorm Wednesday.

Marie ended up coming home early because she was not feeling well.  She even fell asleep at her worksite…

I don’t have a good photo of Nigel, but every time I saw him he was grinning ear-to-ear.

It was pretty wonderful.

Doughnut with Daddy

Mom woke up sick.
Hanny had an ophthalmologist appointment at 8:00 A.M.
So daddy took her to see the doctor, then stopped by Dunkin for a treat.

IMG_7052

We were shocked to hear she needed to return to eye patching.  Eight months ago she had finished a long season of patching and her follow-up six months ago was so promising, he gave her six months off seeing him.  There was even a little hope that she would be told today that she did not need to wear this type of glasses anymore.

But – she does.  And she needs to also return to patching.

The doctor said correcting the optic nerve is something that usually doesn’t see progress past eight years old.  Hanny is 7.75 years old.  But the calendar isn’t in charge of Hanny’s eye; God is.  So we will not have a spirit of hopelessness.  For we have a High Priest who is not surprised by today’s appointment, and we will patch confidently.

Jeremiah 17:14
Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for you are my praise.

Blanca, Newsboys, and God hugs

When we heard that one of Marie’s favorite recording artists, Blanca, was going to be an opening act for The Newsboys on the Big Church Night Out tour, we got tickets for her and John to attend (Mama had to work & Tab was sleeping over at Nan’s).

They had great seats and seriously enjoyed all the artists.

That would have been enough for a memorable evening with Daddy.

But then on the way out they bumped into our friend Mrs. Crandall.  Mrs. C had two backstage passes to meet the Newsboys, but had a family group of more than two, so she offered the passes to John and Marie.

Pretty snazzy, huh?

Psalm 135:3
Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; sing to his name, for it is pleasant!

GM day

Every few years we get a sneak peak into Daddy’s work.  Pictures are prohibited outside, so we widely have to lean on our memories to recall what his plant looks like.

They had this race car outside and we were welcome to pose and sit in it.

Ecclesiastes 3:13
Also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God’s gift to man.

How we do things…

Check out the clock on the wall.
They have already done their devotions and are into the meat of chemistry.
