July 4th, 2016

Per the norm – I didn’t plan ahead.  But an impromptu July 4th celebration was perfectly in order.

She sincerely enjoyed the fruit and chocolate dipping sauce Nanny brought!

Visit from the Steins

Our friends, the Steins, moved to Washington state 3 years ago last month.  We got to see them last June as they visited the Maxfields in Oregon the same time we did

As they returned East for a vacation in NY, we were able to command their attention for one beautiful afternoon.

We did not get many photos.  We were too busy talking.

I’m so glad we could see one another in person!  Nigel was at play rehearsal when we took this photo.

Oh.  And there was cake were cakes.

Last Day of Pioneer Girls

We were barely unpacked when it was the last day of Pioneer Girls, which meant an end-of-the-year picnic and awards ceremony.

It was fun to see our church friends again after being away three weekends.

Even if the photos are blurry.

Cake art?

We were invited to our friends’ house for after-church lunch.  I didn’t have time for a special dessert so I figured we would make our sort-of-better-than-average chocolate mayo cake.  So while I was at work for a long shift, John was going to make it and I would frost it when I got home.  But John forgot to put the mayo and cinnamon in the chocolate mayo cake.  So he had to make a second one.  As I was getting in the door he was making the buttercream frosting.  But it did not look right.  It was soupy or something.  So I had to make that over again.

The final result was pretty.  But maybe, just maybe, it would have been easier to make a fancy dessert?

Mommy’s Day OFF!

John had the day off from work in lieu of Veteran’s Day.
So I was granted a “day off.”
This was a TRUE day off, too.  Meaning, school continued without me.  It’s not left there for me to make up later.

I went to the outlet mall with my sweet friend Marguerite.
We had almost SIX HOURS of beautiful, encouraging conversation.
It is SO excellent to make connections with people who love the LORD.
The weather was mild, the mall was uncrowded, and did I mention we got to talk for almost 6 hours?

Fellowship

Lots of it.
We used to enjoy a lot of time with friends.  We recognized that we’d gotten pretty rusty.
So, this summer we’ve made a bigger effort this year to actually INVITE over some folks we’ve always said we wanted to spend some fellowship time with.
It’s been excellent.

Now, all I need is more weekends.  🙂

July 4th

It was cold.  (It was cold all summer…)
But we had a few families join us for some dinner and dessert.  And it was fun.

And yes, we served sno-cones even though it was SO. COLD.

I even lent out fleece coats to other guests.
