While Tab and I were at CCHA, Dad and the others got to go to AHG for the pot luck and box packing.

HANNY, AHG, FESTIVAL OF TREES
The Festival of Trees is a thing in three hotels in downtown Greenville.
Organizations sponsor a tree.
Volunteers/group decorate a tree.
One of Johanna’s AHG peers is working on a level badge that required her to organize a community service project, so Darby and her mom worked out a way for girls to make decorations, and then the unit met downtown to decorate Darby’s assigned tree.
All Darby’s decorations had a woodland theme.
Afterward we went to Kilwin’s for the most expensive, but very delicious, ice cream.

Explorer’s Camping Trip 2021
Johanna joined her American Heritage Girls Explorer troop to go camping in NC.
They were gone Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. They worked on their Fire Safety badge, their Camping badge, and their Outdoor Cooking badge. They also did hiking. Not sure if that went with badge work.
She had a wonderful time. I am so grateful for her opportunity.

After an early dinner, we headed down to Fountain Inn Main Street.
There was a tribute to Fountain Inn Fire Fighters tonight in our little town as a local furniture and electronics retailer hosted “Bike Night.” The Hoyts met us there and Marguerite and I made up for missing our annual 4th of July photo. We were dressed for Patriot Day – so it worked out.
Invitations matter!
As I picked Katriel up from Madeline’s house last Sunday (in NY), she understandably began to lament and ask why we couldn’t just stay in NY forever. I let her mourn for a moment, then said, “If we stayed in NY, you would not get to go to Izzy’s party next weekend.”
Her walk changed, her countenance changed, her voice changed. “Mom, I have to get her and Reid some presents.” We had a new direction. She remember that there were good things in our new home, too.
We’ve talked a lot about how now the kids will have two places of friends. It’s not easy (LORD knows this is NOT easy).
Take away – never underestimate the power of an invitation.
