Palm Sunday

The kids joined the choir (really – the choir is there) to sing for Palm Sunday.  While I won’t pretend Katriel had a clue what the words are I can promise you she was having a delightful time participating in worship.

FINALLY–We celebrated Katriel’s birthday

Having gotten ill on the day that we had first planned for her party, we finally had the opportunity to celebrate with many of her friends on April 1st.

These sweet little ones played a few games, dined on chicken nuggets & fruit, and opened gifts.

As she opened gifts she “read” the cards.  They mostly said the pretty close to the same thing: “Happy birthday Katriel.  We are friends.  I love you, and you love me, and Jesus loves us.”  Winking smile

But my favorite photo:

Vroom Vroom

These lovely ladies accompanied me to a few stores as I looked for new curtains for our living room make over.  Apparently Johanna was quite affected by my difficulty in making a decision on which window panels to buy; she asked her Pioneer Girls friends to pray for mommy to be able to choose curtains.

Really.

March Madness?

As Marie and I were preparing dinner the other night, Johanna called out, “Do you want to know why Katriel is crying?”  I’d barely noticed the whining type cry from the stair area of the house.
Without waiting for a reply, Johanna continued, “She’s crying because of how dinner smells.”
Katriel then chimed in, “I’m going to die.  It’s so stinky and bad.”

It was sweet, spicy, sticky chicken.  And it was delicious.

Today Hanny did some cooking of her own.

She made kibble for her dog, Bolt.

And Nigel brought in the beauty of nature to show us.

Three seconds after this photo it fell to the ground.
And shattered.

It’s how we roll.

Sunday School Substitute

I’ve long lost track of how many weeks I have subbed in Katriel’s Sunday School class.  Early on I let all the teachers know I’d be available as a back up (as long as they didn’t mind how tired I am Sunday mornings after working Saturday evenings!)

I helped in Tab’s class once back in November, and I’ve had the very good privilege of helping in Katriel’s a ton.  One of her teachers had a baby last month, so I will probably help for the rest of the year.

It is so much fun to be in there.  I love to see Katriel interact with her teacher and her friends.  Miss Pam is the lead teacher and has the best crafts and activities.  We paint and glue and have all kinds of fun.  (Katriel was born on Miss Pam’s birthday in 2013, too.  So it’s extra fun being with a birthday buddy!)

The party’s over…

She had such a wonderful day, yesterday.

And today she woke up super excited to play with new toys and looking forward to welcoming friends over for a party later in the afternoon.

Within a half-hour of waking, she vomited.  She was so playful and happy that at first I wondered if she’d gagged on something.  But, sure enough, she was sick 30 minutes later and then the “sick” descended on her with a bam.

Late A.M. she got a bath… and decided to sit on the floor?

Mid-afternoon she perked up a little bit.  She asked us to reach her down some dishes she likes to play with.  John got them for her and she carried them to the living room.  We looked over a few moments later and found her lie this.

After an hour or so, I decided to scoop her up and have her sleep in my arms.  It is very likely the last time I’ll get that chance as a mama.  So yeah – I wasn’t about to pass that up.

Katriel is four

We started Katriel’s birthday with our tradition of waking up the birthday child with a song.  She really was happy to see us, despite what this photo suggest.

Nan came over after breakfast with a gift for her.  The box was almost as big as she was.

I think we set records regionally for the warm temps for the day, which was perfect.  Nigel put Katriel’s new motor scooter together and she took it for a spin.

Later in the evening, we had her grandparents for supper, and our friends, the Hoyts joined us, as well.

And what four year old doesn’t love a Yoda cake?

The last time the youngest child in our home turned four, I was 8 months pregnant.  Katriel is officially the oldest “baby Butler” ever.
She is such a treasure.
