WE WENT OUT!

Praise the LORD, the sky is blue and the big girls and I went out for lunch and shopping.  Oh – yeah – well – we do have to wear these infernal masks in order to comply with the mandates, but we got to go out and eat and shop.

It is great to be able to do things again.

On one hand, these outings humble me.  They help me recognize how many privileges we enjoy in this country, that people around the world can’t even begin to understand.  Fast food?  Air conditioned department stores? Frozen treats?  The things we have lost are truly the extras in life.

On the other hand, these outings make me so angry.  How dare our officials manipulate us like this?!  They were elected and now they are using data against us.   I strongly believe all the parties that be are using the lockdowns to manipulate the election in November.  Will they use this fear mongering to push for mail-in voting and are they already tampering with it?

It was fun to be out.
It was sad to see so much product at Kohl’s deeply discounted to move it, and to make up for months of lost sales.
It was sad to see TJMaxx all but empty as they had little product to see.
It was great to see the cloud lift off my girls for a few hours as we laughed our way through life some more.

A Little Bit of Spring

With all of our activities cancelled we are moving right along with school.  There are no people, places, or things taking time out of the day, so our school subjects are wrapping up early.
Thankfully, the weather has been mild, and the sun has been shining here and there.
Amidst the chaos stirring in our world there are some nice parts to this extra time together.

Art for a Quarantine

These are some of the art projects we’ve done this week from artprojectsforkids.org website. I’ve used it on and off for years.
See Yoda, Statue of Liberty, bunnies and the Grinch. Oh and dinosaurs!
Katriel did Yoda and Grinch.

Marie and Sophia offering song.

DL was able to record this from where he was sitting.
I am so blessed by how these two have been able to work together this year.

Psalm 147:1
Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting.

Praise team

DL shared this image from service today.  Marie has been participating in the praise team on both guitar and as a vocalist.

Psalm 95:1
Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!

Spring Semester

Nigel headed back for his last semester as a high school student.  ENG 103, a video editing class, and a business advertising course.

Marie is taking her first college class.  ENG 101 for her.

I am so grateful for the doors God has opened for them.

Colossians 2:8:
See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

Scarlet Knights for the win…

A lot of games mushed into one post.

Marie plays on varsity again this year and Tab is enjoying her second modified year.  Their teams play well and win some and lose some.  They are a joy to watch.

Marie and I were discussing some of the finer points of what it means to play team sports.

Some people focus mostly on the number of goals and wins.  That’s fine.  It’s one way to evaluate it.

I probably wouldn’t enjoy playing for or rooting for a team that didn’t care anything about winning.

IMG_9084IMG_9087

But that’s not the most important piece to me.  Not by a long shot.

For John and I what matters to us is the following:

IMG_9168

1.)  Opportunity to use the gifts God gave you.  Enjoying the functions of a healthy body and being willing to work on improving your performance to the glory of God is one of the easiest examples to offer.

IMG_9185IMG_9186

2.)  The opportunity to learn how to function as a part of a larger team is also very valuable.  Just as we are all parts of the whole body of the church and need to practice how to compliment and support one another, team members need to learn to function as a part of the whole.

IMG_9187IMG_9194IMG_9195

3.)  And the opportunity to work with mentor-coaches.  Marie and Tabitha have been exceedingly blessed to be coached by Mr. Ray Marshall and Ms. Meaghan Finn.  As a parents we have been very thoughtful about whom we allow in positions of role models in our kids’ lives.  The statistics on the effects of coaches on a young person are reported time and time again as being significant to their overall development.  (Google it.)  I can say without hesitation that my girls’ coaches have contributed meaningfully to their spiritual development.  They are not only sturdy role models, but they have offered Marie and Tab more than soccer training.

Both girls play defense.

The next five shots were taken by D. L. Walter.

Yes – she did head this.

I’m not sure if they will go to the championship games.
But they have won handedly already.
