Square dancing with our PCC LEAH group

There was a family dance night with our homeschool group.  Or as Johanna called it, “The Ball.”

I’m not convinced they are any clearer on the difference between a do-si-do and a promenade left…

But we had a lot of fun.

Marie and Tabitha kept Daddy’s dance card completely full.

Game night

We don’t do stuff on Hallowe’en and frankly, we were exhausted after four busy night’s worth of activities.  So we tremendously enjoyed getting our jammies on early and having a family game night.

Do you have any idea how loud Yahtzee is with 8 of us?

Science Geeks?

We’ve had a ton of science experiments going on around here, as well as science projects.

Nigel made some animal tracks one week.

And experimented with chocolate and corn syrup to see how an anteater’s tongue works.

Stewart had to develop his own experiment using water, salt, sugar, corn syrup.  He decided to measure how eggs float (or sink) as each is used as a solute.  He figured out control vs. variable.

He also has thus far build a glider, a steam boat and a racer to conduct experiments.

I don’t think either of them plans to make a career out of this stuff… but it is more interesting than other years, as you can see.  🙂

Firestation field trip

It was a rainy Saturday that Mommy DIDN’T have to work.  Our local fire station had an open house and we enjoyed our first fire station tour in years.  Frankly, I don’t know if Johanna has ever been to one, and Tabitha was quite little the last time around.

The boys even made the most of it.
The kids got a tour of the Fire Safety house with tips on keeping your home protected, etc.

When we got home Tabitha created some of her own Firefighter gear and recruited some help along the way.

Home SUNDAY school

For the last few years we’ve been doing Daddy-led Sunday school at home.  Why?  Enh – a bunch of reasons.  But it works for the most part.  We decided to do some fun-geared review.  Two teams.  Two dry erase boards.  A few questions.

Stewart and Tabitha won the first round naming the 12 disciples the most quickly.  Both teams got stuck on one each.  We let them use a LIFELINE.

They then won the second round naming the 12 sons of Jacob.

Marie and Nigel won the third round naming the judges from judges.  They should have gotten extra points for naming them in order, but I didn’t think about that at the time.

Then all points were forgotten and laughter ensued as we played Bible story charades.  Marie and Nigel acted out Abraham offering Isaac as a sacrifice.  Stewart and Tabitha acted out Daniel being found praying and then being thrown into the lion’s den.  They decided they’d like to work together to make one up for Mom to guess. That became two.  First one was hysterical as Tabitha ran into a “tower” and threw down a pillow on Nigel.  He pantomimed something to Stewart and Stewart slew him.  (I couldn’t even catch my breath from laughter to answer before Tab yelled out, “I threw a millstone!!”)  Judges 9:53 – Abimelek is hit by a millstone but demands that his armor-bearer kills him so he doesn’t die at the hand of a woman.

Next Nigel baptized Tabitha and then Marie and Stewart came and grabbed him.  Stewart then cut off his head.

Teenager in the house!

Stewart turned 13 this year with a moderate amount of fanfare.
We started the morning with his requested birthday breakfast: spinach/artichoke pastries.
We followed that up with a few gifts.  A new head for the drum set.  TWO Adventures in Odyssey CD sets.  A pair of pajamas.  Three shirts…

Tabitha gave him a roll of tape.  Marie and Nigel chipped in to buy him a Wii game.

They did a few minutes of tummy time with Katriel.

Then off to Seabreeze for our last trip of the summer.  We’re growing tired of it, I’m sad to say…

Home for his dinner of choice: angel hair pasta with Alfredo sauce, broccoli, and grilled chicken.
And a half-baked (metaphorically) cake.  (I’m slipping…) 😦

My boys

Once upon a time I considered myself a boy-mom.  These days my fellas are quite outnumbered.  They are still my princes.

With summer birthdays a few weeks apart they had a small campout in the yard this weekend.  Swimming, movie, obstacle course, and Narnian/Middle Earth/lightsaber battle.

Or something like that.
