Oy.

Now – WHY would I have a post with just a photo of sleeping bag?

We have this wonderfully big van.  I was happy to be asked to drive some of the youth group to their retreat in Canandaigua Friday night.

Saturday morning at 7 A.M. I got a text from Stewart that he didn’t have his sleeping bag.  I asked how he slept.  He used his towel and a towel of his friend.

Sure enough – I went out to the van and there was his sleeping bag.

Here is what I think happened.  His sleeping bag was on the top of a PILE of items in the back of the van.  As kids unloaded the back, that bag must have gotten pushed forward into the seat.  Stewart, in particular, helped to unload a bunch of boxes of supplies the youth pastor had for the weekend.  The kids were instructed to quickly dump their stuff in their cabins and hurry to dinner.  Stewart headed off with his load and I got back to the van.

This is the killer… I DID check the back, AND I opened the side door and looked UNDER the seats.  I did not climb into the van and look into the back seat.

Now – some people said I was “TOO NICE” because I drove it down to him.  I should have had him “LEARN A LESSON.”

But I have a few thoughts.

First – he was busy unloading things for others and probably got confused by the number of trips he’d already made.

Second – I took off without checking thoroughly, and without saying goodbye.

Third – and most importantly – I have been extended new mercies by Jesus over and over and over.  In my head I heard, “Do not with hold good from another when it is in your power to do so” paraphrased.

And so I headed down to camp a second time.

SIXTEEN!!!!

Hard to believe it, but Stewart is 16 years old.  It seems like just days ago when the midwife said, “It’s a boy.”

The day started with Nan and Nene coming by with breakfast casserole.

John worked a half-day and then he and I took Stewart out to lunch at Longhorn Steakhouse.  It was fun to get him out alone and chat with him.

Then John took him to the DMV where he got his driver’s permit.  This is really happening!

For dessert, we had his favorite cake – lemon.  Oh.  Yum.

It was a quiet day, but it was good.  I love this young man.

Baseball night

I realized a while ago that we’d never taken the kids to a baseball game.  In fact, the last time I went to a baseball game I was 40 weeks pregnant with Stewart.  j

Johanna and Katriel slept over with Nan while John and I took Stewart, Nigel, Marie, and Tabitha to the game.  We watched the Red Wings take on the Mud Hens.  The Mud Hens won by a lot.  But we all had a great time.

And we bought them all sodas the size of their heads!

Last day of baseball–pizza party

Dad was out of town, so it meant Mama went to the game and enjoyed the pizza with the whole crew.  I was even able to see some of the games (although little Miss Three Year Old didn’t exactly settle in for inning after inning).

What is a mom to do when her 3 year old decides she no longer wants to wear the ears she brought with her?

Hanny had her own soda.  Yes, she did.

Hanny got to blow the horn to warn the teams that the end of the game was near.

Living Last Supper

our church did the Living Last Supper for Good Friday.
Nigel was Simon the zealot.
Stewart and Kelly were in the choir (not pictured).

It was lovely.

Hair apparent

The director asked the boys to not get a hair cut until after the production.  Their head gear would stay on better if there was more bulk to their hair.

There was bulk all right.

9 A.M. Monday morning, Nan came over to get the boys and take them to the salon.

There had to be a pound of hair on the floor when she was done.
