Park Day. Focus: Wizarding World (and Volcano Bay)

It was another early morning, yummy breakfast, and long commute.
But we were at the entrance of Universal Studios Orlando before it opened.

hp plan

IMG_4928IMG_4929IMG_4930IMG_4931IMG_4932IMG_4934

We headed directly to Gringott’s in the back of the park, which was easier said than done.  Our group picked the wrong way to walk, got somewhat separated, and had no idea what we were looking for…

We finally figured out way in through the wall and made our way to the first ride.

IMG_4935IMG_4936

It was awesome, and my family didn’t even understand the storyline.

Our plan said to then ride the train to IOA for Forbidden Journey (we did yesterday), Hagrid’s (currently a 220 minute wait!), and Flight of the Hippogriff (which is more or less a kid coaster).

Instead we opted to ride a few things on the UOR side to knock stuff off tomorrow’s list.

First was the MIB ride (oh – man – lame)

IMG_4938

Poor Noelle lost her shoe!  They were able to get it back within 15 minutes.

IMG_4939

The Simpson Ride

IMG_4941

was the worst ride of the vacation.  Good Grief.

IMG_4942

We rode the train over.

IMG_4945IMG_6372

11:43AM

IMG_4949

And got lunch at Three Broomsticks.  It was delicious.

IMG_4950IMG_4960

Nine of us got in line for Hagrid’s.  It said 120 minutes, and ended up being 81 minutes.  Very much worth it for such a good ride.

IMG_4962IMG_4963IMG_4964IMG_4966

We had some Butterbeer.  Some tried cold and others tried frozen.

IMG_4974

We opted not to ride the train back, and instead left the parks and stopped by our vehicles to grab our swim gear for Volcano Bay.

3:24PM

IMG_4978

It was hot.  Feet were hurting.  People were tired.  We pressed on, knowing there was water coming.

IMG_4981

The park wasn’t too busy.  It was a good trial run for our VB day later in the week.

IMG_2863IMG_4983

I asked my message board friends for dinner ideas.  Bubba Gumps was originally the plan, but we would have had to go back through the garage, and security, to get to CityWalk.

IMG_4986IMG_4992IMG_4993IMG_4994IMG_4995IMG_4997

Instead we drove about 10 minutes to Giordano’s and had a nice sit down pizza meal.

IMG_5002IMG_5003

Chicago style.  We did NOT need three pizzas.  Nan treated, and we took a bunch home.

IMG_5004

And had ice cream before bed.

Park Day. Focus: Islands of Adventure

5:51AM
I’d had my alarm set for 5AM to insure we’d be fed and ready to get out the door for 7:30AM.  Marie and Noelle were also up very early.

IMG_4783

By 6:45AM most everyone was eating or had eaten.

IMG_4784

The girls were raring to go!

IMG_4785

IMG_4787

We left the house by 7:40AM and decided to gas up.  When we stopped, Noelle hopped out to clean the bugs of the window as Stewart pumped the gas.  Speaking of Noelle, she was a God-send for helping me understand the many bells and whistles on this very new vehicle.  It had more tech than all my phones, computers and cars put together!

IMG_4788IMG_4789

Traffic was horrible.  This is going to be a long week.  We finally got to the UOR parking garage and got ourselves through security and on to City Walk.

IMG_4792IMG_4793IMG_4794IMG_4795

Sigh – there is Toothsomes… maybe next time?

IMG_4796IMG_4797IMG_6289

Our arrival time was exactly at park open (so much for rope dropping), but we began our touring plan immediately.

IOA 5/16 (touringplans.com)

First up was the Incredible Hulk Coaster.  Katriel has been talking of nothing else for the last few weeks.  And just as we were preparing to queue she decided she didn’t want to go on.  She walked back toward Nan, who also wasn’t riding.  As soon as this news made it to my ears (I was leading), I turned on my heel and asked her if she was sure she wouldn’t regret skipping Hulk.  She lifted her head, dropped Nan’s hand, and came with me.

IMG_4804

We all loved it.

From there we went to Dr. Doom Free Fall, then back to Storm Force Acceleron.

IMG_4802

Dr. Doom was lame, but Storm Force was delightful!

IMG_4803

We scooted further into Marvel Super Hero Island which was fabulously decorated.

IMG_4805IMG_4806IMG_4810

We were in line for Spider-Man by 10:00AM – 1 hour after park opening.

IMG_4811IMG_4812IMG_4813IMG_4814

And off by 10:30.

IMG_4817IMG_4821

We were ahead of schedule and not at all ready to eat, so we went on to our next goal of Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls.

IMG_4823IMG_4824IMG_4825

Did we get wet?

IMG_4826

We sure did.
11:17AM

IMG_4827

Message board friends were strongly encouraging me to make sure we stopped and ate before lunch crowds developed, so we headed to Captain America Diner.   We had a learning curve with using mobile ordering for such a large group, and navigating food allergies.

My salad was excellent!

IMG_4828IMG_4830

The theming throughout was fantastic.

IMG_4831IMG_4834

From there we figured we’d do the other water ride – Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges.  It was preposterous how wet we got…

12:27PM

IMG_4837

Some had decided it was enough water for one day, but the rest stuck with the Touring Plan and went to Jurassic Park River Adventure, which was thankfully, no where near as soaking.

IMG_4838IMG_4839IMG_4841

Nan and Katriel visited the Discovery Center while the rest of us went to Velocicoaster.

IMG_4843IMG_2856IMG_2858IMG_6324IMG_4850

It was a wild ride, for sure!

IMG_4851

While we were in line for the Velocicoaster, John had gotten a call about the van.  Ah.  Yes.  The van.  REALITY… boo.  He got some paper and a pen from Nan and tried to find somewhere quiet-ish to talk to the garage.

WPRC4178

Pteranodon Flyers was down (Nan and Katriel had looked into it) and we were so far ahead of schedule, we decided to ride Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.

IMG_4853

I was exceptionally nauseated afterward.  Whoa.

John still hadn’t met up with us.  Stewart and Noelle went exploring.  The rest of us queued to meet Blue – the Velociraptor.  We waited about half an hour, which resulted in John, Stewart, and Noelle ending up catching up with us.

IMG_4855

And capturing what I am fairly sure will end up our Christmas Card photo.

IMG_4885

Nan, Johanna, Katriel and I skipped Kong…

IMG_4902

And headed back to the Discovery Center outdoor play area.  It was voluminous!

IMG_4906IMG_2861

It was nigh on supper time and it seemed wholly unlikely we’d find a safe meal for Stewart at Thunder Falls Terrace.  We hoofed it over to Seussland and Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-Pendous which supposedly had something for everyone.

IMG_4908

It did not.  It was closed.  All it had was seats and AC.  So we ordered food from Blondie’s and then headed back over to Toon Lagoon to eat.

IMG_4909

We got there as they were prepping our sandwiches, so we were able to add more toppings than the app had suggested were available.

IMG_4910

And that’s where I ate a sandwich on vacation.  (So – everyone thought it was yummy! great!… me – I’m like, “It’s.  a sandwich…”

IMG_4911

We did a bit of shopping as some of my offspring demonstrated a little theme park fatigue.

IMG_6360

The last thing on our list was Seuss Landing.

IMG_4912

Our second longest wait of the day was for the ride about the Sneetches: The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride!  We also rode The Cat in the Hat.  We skipped One Fish, Two Fish, because it was basically Dumbo.  And the Seuss carousel is closed for refurb.

IMG_4913IMG_4914IMG_4915

And then we left around 7:40PM.

Not going to lie.  It physically pained me to leave before park closing.  – No one was actually complaining; though I had gotten some carefully worded, “What time do you think we will be leaving?” questions since before dinner.

I don’t know  when my kids became wimps lost their vivre for amusement parks.  They don’t get it from me.  And even John is wholly in-the-moment when we get to these places.  He and I fully ascribe to Theme Park Math.  Theme Park Math takes the cost of the ticket divided by how many possible hours you could tour a park.  Every minute we aren’t getting a return on our investment is lost money.  But, since the only thing on our Touring Plan that we didn’t do were Poseidon’s Fury and The Nighttime Lights at Hogwarts Castle we decided to cry uncle and head back.  We did still have a hour long ride back.  John and his car stopped for a tub of ice cream.

Other than hearing that the garage could not fix our van and we had to make arrangements to have it towed elsewhere, it was a very good day.

The Road to Recovery…

The drive from the Savannah airport to Universal Studios Orlando was decent.  At that hour of the night, the traffic had lessened, and God allowed us to move smoothly, although at a slower speed had just John been driving (I am more timid).

I was all but exhausted as we pulled in to Cabana Bay at 1:06AM.  I pulled up under the awning and left my car to start the check in process.  Thankfully, the lobby was vibrant, if not subdued.  It didn’t feel like we were there in the dead of night.  Multiple Team Members were at the counter and there was another family checking in, and a dad with sons getting some upgrades to their passes.

John arrived just as I was heading to the counter for our check in.  The Team Member, Amanda, was lovely.  She asked if our flight had been delayed and we gave her the Cliff Notes version of our trip.  She sweetly waived our parking fee (which would have needed to be for TWO cars now) and asked a peer to add notes to our map as she disappeared.  When she returned she had some free drink vouchers for us.  She didn’t need to do any of those things, but how nice to feel seen.

IMG_4654

Parking was hard to find that late in the night, but I scored a spot close to the building.  We got Noelle and Nan in to the first of the two rooms we could locate.  We mistakenly thought our room would be right next door, but then located it on the rear of the building, directly behind the first room.

Once John had found us (his spot was further away), we got Marie and Tab into their room with Nan and Noelle the other six of us headed to our room.

IMG_4656IMG_4660IMG_4659IMG_4657IMG_4658

It was cute.
But at that point…

IMG_4665

IMG_4666

IMG_4661

IMG_4663

IMG_4662

We got Johanna and Katriel’s bed made up (borrowing a pillow from the first room).  And we were lights out by 2AM.

IMG_4667

I woke in the morning and tip toed to the bathroom and back to bed.  I had no idea what time it was, but normally a very early riser, I was afraid to reach for my iPhone, etc., and wake other sleepers.  It wasn’t too long before I decided maybe I should check.

It was after 7AM.
I started to get myself around and saw a text from Marie saying they, too, were up and getting ready.  Slowly we all rallied and emerged into a new day.  The same day?  What day is this?

It was warm and sunny.

IMG_4681

We dressed in swim gear, and packed up our day bags.  We also put all our belongings in the cars except what we’d need to change into dry clothes.  Sunscreen in hand, we headed to find breakfast.  (Remember, I’d left my two eggs bakes in the big van).

IMG_4682

IMG_4684

We did a bit of exploring on the way to breakfast.  We saw the bowling alley where I had hoped we would bowl 10PM the night before.  So much for splurging for a hotel…
C’est la vie.  We were alive.

IMG_6230

IMG_6231

We went to Bayliner which was a glorified food court.  Many different options (like stations) provided different opportunities.  The sticker shock on food prices hit us like bricks.

We had to eat at separate tables, but there would be enough togetherness this week and that a big group reality.

IMG_4687

Marie had a salmon and caper sandwich.

IMG_6234IMG_6235

I had a croissant with eggs and bacon and cheese and was happy a fruit side was an option over fried potatoes.

IMG_4686

After breakfast, we looked around a little more and shopped in the big Universal store.

IMG_4697IMG_4695

IMG_4711IMG_4698

And we headed for the pools.
It was a quiet day and we easily found chairs by the pool with a slide.  Despite our official check out at 10AM we were allowed to stay for the day. I’d originally planned to visit our hotel pool and then later visit another resort’s pool.  At this point, less was more.

IMG_2839IMG_2844IMG_4714IMG_6263

Free iced drink and reusable cup.

IMG_4717

Kids swam and sunned and enjoyed lawn games.

IMG_4722IMG_4724

As lunchtime approached we went to the Hideaway Bar by the lazy river side of the park.  We cut through the lobby and Bayliner.

IMG_6238

This restaurant told us they couldn’t accommodate food allergies.  Ugh.
So John and Stewart went into Bayliner where they were able to hook him up with Fettuccini Alfredo and chicken.

IMG_2850IMG_2849

Marie, Tab and I had shrimp tacos.  I got fruit again!

IMG_4744

Johanna loved her cheeseburger with a side of apples.

IMG_4745

Tab got fries with her tacos.

IMG_4746
I believe these are Noelle’s chicken nuggets, and fries.

IMG_4747

We stayed on that side of the resort to use the lazy river, and we mingled with some of the locals.

IMG_4749IMG_4751

I started getting the occasional, “How long are we going to stay, Mom?”  I was weighing the value of more swim time (at the $$$ hotel) vs the value of settling in to the rental (there had been little sleep) when it started to sprinkle.

So we started a gentle process of packing up to go.  First we went back through the lobby and visited the stores a little more.  Then we cleaned up our lounge chairs and changed into clothes.  Then I went and got our other free drink (Starbucks!) before finally moseying to the vehicles.

Look what they do!  Clearly we had missed that the night before.

IMG_4752

We decided to get some dinner on the way to our rental house.  GPS indicated it would be almost an HOUR to get to the rental.  This was NOT how it was supposed to be, but as we found out day in and day out – the construction project on the I-4 exit by our rental made traffic a nightmare.

We went for CiCi’s Pizza.  Which is not very wonderful.  But it was very affordable.  And it solved the “what to eat” question for the night.  We had to be at the rental by 6PM for our grocery delivery slated for between 6PM-8PM.

IMG_4753IMG_4754

We made it to the rental, and I sent Tab in with my phone to grab some photos before we trashed the place.

IMG_4755IMG_4756

Nan’s room.

Groceries arrived by 7PM and it was funny what did not come… but whatever.  We’d make it work.
Because we were alive.
And exhausted.
And adventure was calling early in the morning!

You Will Never Believe This–A Travel Story

It has been 2.5 years since our whole family went on a real vacation together.  We knew this was the year to try to go, as the boys still live at home, and have a little flexibility.  We couldn’t take a cruise because they still require vaccinations and do not have all the features up and running yet.  We were afraid to do a road trip because some places still have restrictions.  We decided the easiest place to vacation would be Florida, and decided we would visit Universal Studios.  John and I were last there in 1999; the kids have never been there.

Our plan was to splurge and stay our first night at a resort hotel on property and to enjoy the amenities.  We would then move to a rental about 45 minutes away for the balance of the trip (7 nights).

Nan and Noelle joined us for the adventure.

The day before the trip, I had driven Tab to see her friend and I didn’t like the way the car was sounding.  I got to the garage just before they closed and based on their quick on-the-ground assessment, they told us to come back in the morning.  This ruined our plan to leave at 6AM.  I cancelled my much desired dinner at Toothsome’s Chocolate Emporium, but I really had no other option.

Early this morning, John went back up to the garage.  They quickly assessed the vehicle and found nothing wrong with it.  We were happy to hear that, though still wondered about the noise.  We got on the road by 11AM.

IMG_4634

IMG_4637

IMG_E4642

Just outside Savannah, John suddenly exclaimed, “The wheel is coming off!” and I proceeded to throw my hands in the air and just started praying LOUDLY.

John got the van off into the inner shoulder…

where we would remain…

for two hours.

He called 911 while I called AAA.

This is where I will just do a brain dump:
•AAA was beyond useless.  I’ve been a member since 1999 and I have never been so sad, angry, helpless or frustrated.  When they weren’t acting obtuse, they were disconnecting us, lying to us, suggesting we get an Uber (from the Interstate!?), and more.
•The local police came.  They got us a Samaritan truck from GA-DOT to help keep the oncoming traffic from demolishing us.
•The Samaritan reached out to State Police who were the ones who eventually saved the day as AAA continued to waste our time and give us ulcers.
•It was close to 90○F out and the windows in the van don’t open.

John and I were making decisions and calls in an extremely stressful situation.

–Where to tow the van?
–What do do next?  Home?  Continue on our vacation at an exorbitant cost?
–How can we get ANYwhere?
–How do we fund plan B – whatever it is?

Calls to Hertz and Dollar told us neither had any cars at the SAV airport.  The Budget website said the same thing.  No Cars!

But my Priceline app?
They let me rent two vehicles?….  Is this legit?

The State Troopers finally just started to make things happen – to heck with AAA and their “Roadside Assistance.”

They got a truck.
They got a van.
They got us all out of there.

They drove us (it was a ride we will never forget – prayers and jokes) to an area with a few hotels and fast food restaurants.  There was so much confusion.  Like – do we get a hotel?  Do we find the cars I rented?  How do we get there?

The tow truck operator was a gentleman, for sure.  He lowered our van so we could get our luggage.  Decisions had to be made.  I had to leave two egg bakes… We grabbed the beach bag.  Etc.

John went with the tow truck and the rest of us walked across the street to Burger King.  Dazed.  Confused. Alive.

Yeah – I think this is where we started to realize being alive was clearly the best part of the last few hours.  Thank you God.

JGGE5433

The kids were great.  They were clearly affected by it and each sorting through the pieces.

Noelle jumped into action, and bought some food for those growing hungry as I tried to make heads and tails out of what was going on.

IMG_4649

She and I downloaded Uber Apps to our phones and programmed them with my credit card.

I communicated with John,  and Noelle and I each ordered an Uber as he was on his way back.

This photo was taken at 5:12PM.

IMG_4651IMG_4650

John returned as we waited for the Ubers.  We prepared to split into two vehicles.

As the first one approached, the poor driver looked horrified at the number of humans and the amount of luggage.  John was not about to have any doubt settle into the man’s mind.  He started loading up the car.  Johanna and Katriel mushed in the back with the seat 1/3 down.  Marie, Tab and I lodged in the back of the Honda Pilot.  Nigel sat up front.  We all had luggage all over us.  John, Nan, Noelle and Stewart waited for the second driver.  Our driver told us it was highly irregular for there to be two Ubers in that area.  That’s a God thing.

IMG_4652

At this point EVERYTHING depended on us getting rental vehicles.  Direct calls to vendors yielded nothing, and we wondered if the reservations I’d made in the Priceline app would amount to anything.

The drivers deposited us at the airport, and when we went in we were met with this:

JKCX1125

One vehicle was reserved from Dollar and one from Avis.  I got in the Dollar line with at least 25 people in front of me.  John got in line for Avis with close to 90 people in front of him.  There was one woman working at Dollar and 3 at Avis.  At one point the woman at Dollar had to leave to use the ladies room.

Slowly, we crept up.  I called the hotel to tell them we would be late.  Very late.

Finally, after one hour, I had a set of keys for a minivan.
It would be another hour before John had a set of keys for a full-sized car.
We’d worked to get all our luggage into the vehicles.

At 8:20PM or so, we rolled out of the parking garage at SAV airport.  We still had at least 4 hours to go.  My van had, Johanna, Katriel, Noelle, Stewart and Nan.  John had Marie, Tab, and Nigel.

Florida – here we come….

Fourth of July at Busch Gardens

We enjoyed an amazing breakfast (grits) before we headed to the park.

IMG_9759IMG_9767

we arrived as it was opening with no real touring plan

IMG_9771

Sometimes we were a large group, sometimes we were smaller groups.
I found coffee.  We bought all day dining (a real treat – every 90 minutes we could queue for an entree, drink and either a side or dessert).

IMG_9780IMG_9784IMG_9792IMG_9801IMG_9809IMG_9811IMG_9816IMG_9826IMG_9836

Trying lots of food was almost as much fun as trying lots of rides.

IMG_9838IMG_9845

It was very hot and a very good day.

IMG_9858IMG_9860IMG_9875IMG_9882IMG_9890IMG_9892IMG_9894

It almost felt like 2019 again.

IMG_9899IMG_9907IMG_9913IMG_9927

Photos are out of order as kids have shared some from their devices and I am going for speed here, not accuracy.

IMG_9935IMG_9938IMG_9945

It was a wonderful weekend, though the drive home on 7/5 was again miserable.

At least we had another massive breakfast at the same place.
If it ain’t broke…

Busch Gardens or Bust

John left for SC June 20 for his first day of work June 21.  The kids and I have been working towards the movers coming (soon?).

With the holiday weekend between John’s start date and the movers coming, we knew we’d need to be creative to make the holiday feel holiday-ish.  Our pool is closed bc there was no way I was going to deal with that in John’s absence.  It would be extremely hard on John to come all the way back to NY.

Our decision was to meet John in Williamsburg, VA for a very quick long weekend.  Once we found the location, we decided to do a day at Busch Gardens Williamsburg.  The kids have never been there and John and I were last there on our honeymoon in 1997.

The tickets were $79 per person for one day or $86 per person for two day.  It only took a minute to decide it was well worth the $7 per person to add the partial day we were going to be there.

The kids and I were up long before the sun and on the road before 6AM.  I’d like to say we made great time, but that would be a lie.  There were way too many bathroom stops, a turn around or two (looking for bathrooms) and the DC traffic.

But we did get to our (dumpy) hotel by 4PM and dropped off our stuff and hurried to the park.

We rode the tram in and it actually felt like VACATION.  A glorious feeling after being locked down so long.

IMG_9735IMG_9738IMG_9739

We rode what we could, and grabbed a great dinner.
Staffing was a major issue (like it is everywhere these days).
But everyone was friendly and there were no mask requirements.

IMG_9741IMG_9743IMG_9746

Stewart, Katriel and I skipped one of the roller coasters and found spots for fireworks, which while they weren’t Disney quality, sure were a lot of fun.

Camp Cherith Day three

We made it through breakfast without rain.

And then in CAME with a vengeance.

I momentarily considered calling it a day and heading home, but we decided to just wait it out, and I’m so glad we did.

IMG_5464IMG_5467IMG_5471

Amidst just a drizzle, we did our nature activity.  Our leader for this was the director of the camp.

She was such a delight to talk with.  We had a number of friends in common.

IMG_5476IMG_5478IMG_5492IMG_5493

We examined some pond water, and Katriel found a tadpole!  Someone found a snail!

IMG_5495IMG_5498IMG_5499IMG_5500IMG_5501IMG_5503IMG_5505

Our last activity was hiking.  First we found some quotes and scriptures about being in nature.

IMG_5506IMG_5511IMG_5516IMG_5521IMG_5523IMG_5527IMG_5534

We had our last meal – a lovely lunch.

IMG_5549

And then we went to the Tuck Shop and purchased some souvenirs and ice cream for our trip home.

IT WAS SO AWESOME!

Camp Cherith day two

We woke by 7 to a glorious morning and headed off to breakfast by 8AM.  We came back to our cabin to do our devotions, and then we went to our first activity, which was swimming.  I didn’t take my camera.  I sincerely enjoyed, to the core of my being, my conversations with the two women who are swim instructors/life guards.  One was from FL and one from IL.  I was so soothing to talk with them and find they felt the same way I do about this “pandemic” and the lockdowns.  They also were so encouraging to my reluctant swimmer and they played with Katriel and their cool toys.  Our family had the WHOLE POOL to ourselves.

We headed back to the cabin to prepare for our next activity.

IMG_5290IMG_5293\\

ARCHERY!

Our wonderful archery instructor does this FOR FREE every summer as a ministry.  God bless these leaders.  I am just in awe.

IMG_5298IMG_5306

My girls are naturals!

IMG_5314IMG_5316

Tab shoots left.

I even took a turn.

IMG_5331

WE WERE HUNGRY!

IMG_5338

Then we went outside for our post-lunch devotional activity.

IMG_5344IMG_5347

This one focus on how we need people in our lives to support and encourage us.

IMG_5355

We had cabin quiet time.  Here she is reading her Bible storybook to me.

IMG_5369

Finally we had a craft period.

IMG_5371

Again, we had a lovely adult leader who met my girls where they each were at for crafting.  Different than at home, where mom is all about calculating the mess, our leader was all about helping them see their vision come to be.

IMG_5375IMG_5380IMG_5385

We hurried back to the cabin for swim suits and we were at the Tuck Shop the moment it opened for our daily ice cream.

IMG_5387IMG_5389IMG_5390IMG_5391

Tab used free time to read while we hit the pool again.

IMG_5392IMG_5396IMG_5397

Dinner was delicious.

IMG_5398IMG_5401

We played on the lawn a bit.

IMG_5403IMG_5411IMG_5413

Then a game before campfire games.

IMG_5423

IMG_5428IMG_5432IMG_5434IMG_5440IMG_5445

Our family was the only group to finish the map relay race on time.  Tab is an expert mapper.  (It runs in the family.)

IMG_5453IMG_5455

Devotions and treats.

IMG_5456IMG_5460

And SLEEP!

Camp Cherith

NY has a lot of Christ-centered camps that operate year round, with a special emphasis on youth camps in the summer.

Covid stole that from most of them.

Camp Cherith, in Western NY decided to offer family camp for units traveling together.  Each group got their own cabin and their own dedicated bathroom facilities and dining table.  We also got to rotate between activities over six times slots on three days.  They also provided us with post-breakfast personal devotion material, post-lunch family devotional material, and after dinner songs and campfires with testimonies and games.

We left our house around 8:30AM to be at Cherith by 10AM.

We unpacked, played a game, and then decided to drive by Houghton before lunch so that the girls could see where Stewart goes to college.

There were some yard games set up.

There were also bees.
Katriel got bitten, or stung, or something.

People responded with help, and after some ice and a topical medication, she felt a little better.

After lunch we did an activity to demonstrate what happens when we “poke” people with our words.

We signed up for our activities for the next three days.  Today we would have time to go out in the canoes.

Afterwards, some of us used freetime to swim, and Tab set up her reading station in the back of the van.

Dinner was at 6PM.  We took a different route.

Then at 7PM we went to the pavilion and each group rotated through the four games they had set up for us.

Then we had songs.  Smores.  A testimony.

Bed!  We were the good kind of whooped!

This isn’t a normal Butler vacation, but this is not a normal year.
